“Thank you so much for the Cemetery and Walking Tours this evening! We had a great time and both learned some history about the area we didn’t know.” – Mary Ann
Famed Captains & Shipbuilders Cemetery Tour is a trolley tour in conjunction with Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and will be held every Thursday afternoon from July 12 through October 25. These tours will take you by the homes of some of the most famous inhabitants of early shipbuilding days in Bath and then take you to Oak Grove Cemetery to learn more of their lives in Bath, and about their burials, sometimes wives and families, as you stroll through the oldest section. Please contact Maine Maritime Museum for tickets, 207-443-1316. The computer-generated tickets are not available the day of the tour, so please call!

Historic Cemetery Explorations
Each Historic Cemetery Exploration will focus on the stories of those interred at the cemeteries, their history and the symbolism of their tombstones. A general history of cemeteries, graveyards, and funereal practices will also be discussed. There will be discussion on the meaning of some of the symbols on the headstones, as well.
“I really appreciate the symbolism of the markings on the stones and the heartfelt epitaphs — sometimes biblical — sometimes written by loving family members,” said Lobkowicz. “You realize in a graveyard that there is so much to life; much of which is told by death in these often weather-worn memorials and the stories etched in their stone faces.”
Different from the regular Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, Red Cloak Historic Cemetery Explorations will not have much of a focus on ghosts and hauntings. However, the trademark Lady in the Red Cloak, dressed in period clothing, will still lead the tours.
“We’ve had a great response from both locals and visitors to the Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, with even long-time residents often exclaiming how little they knew about local history,” Lobkowicz said. “We’re hoping we can now really personalize our local history with Red Cloak Historic Cemetery Explorations by telling the stories of people who played a role in making that history, no mater how small their contribution.”
Each Red Cloak Historic Cemetery Exploration will be held during daylight hours in the early evening, last a little over an hour and may be combined with a regular Red Cloak Haunted History Tour. For more information and reservations contact the Lady in the Red Cloak at 207-380-3806. Our Historic Cemetery Explorations are often scheduled only by request, so please do call!
Red Cloak Regular Historic Cemetery Explorations will contribute $1 for each person on the tour to the local cemetery association or historical society, with that contribution included in the tour fee of $15 for adults and $7 for children.
“It’s a great way for the public to enjoy an entertaining and educational tour, while supporting the local historical societies or cemetery associations,” Lobkowicz said.
